Hi, I’m Mitch Brunke. I make software.

I’m a software engineer with a bit over a decade of experience building and maintaining production systems. These days I work remotely, mostly on full-stack and backend-heavy projects.

Living in Hervey Bay gives me a good balance. I get the space and focus that comes with being near the coast, but I’m still close to the cities when it matters — about an hour to Brisbane, two to Sydney, three to Melbourne. Easy enough to be in the room when needed, without living in one full-time.

Outside of work, I’m usually outdoors. Weekends are split between fishing, camping, or getting away somewhere quiet. If I’m not outside, I’m probably watching football or motorsport. I like things that are practical, well thought through, and hold up under pressure — which probably explains both my hobbies and how I approach engineering.

I studied at USC and QUT, and most of my career has been spent in teams where you’re expected to take ownership and ship things that actually get used. That’s shaped how I work now: keep things simple, test what matters, and build systems that don’t fight you six months down the track.

I’m currently working remotely in a senior engineering role, building software that has to deal with real-world constraints — hardware, scale, and systems that evolve over time. I care about clarity and reliability, mostly because they make work easier for everyone involved.

If you want to chat about work, projects, or whether there’s a good fit, feel free to reach out.
